JUST ACROSS THE BORDER!!!!

Just across the border from Loredo Texas is the Mexican city of Nuevo Loredo.
It has a population of approx. 500,000 people, and is one of the most dangerous cities in the entire world.
Drug lords are in an all out war with each other, each wanting to control the city, as it is the main gateway into the United States for drug trafficers.

2 drug cartels are fighting each other for control of the area, and law enforcement has pretty well given up trying to stop or even control them, with the newest local police chief saying that he WILL NOT go after the drug cartels!!! This police chief says it is his departments job to go after thiefs and robbers, and not drug gangs!
The last police chief, who said he would crack down on the drug cartels lasted only 7 days in office before he was shot to death. His body had 50 bullets in it!!!

Last June most of the Nuevo Loredo police force was fired for being in the pockets of the drug lords!
The Mexican military has had run ins with these drug gangs but apparently are quite ineffectual, or incompetent as the case may be. And truth be told many of the Mexican military personel are also in the drug cartels pockets!!!

Because of this ongoing war in the city, tourism is almost non-existant now and shop owners are closing their doors by the dozens!!

*****As far as our side of the border goes....
Us border agents say, the bad guys have level 4 body armor, and we just have level 3 body armor!
The bad guys have satellite cell phones that we can not tap into, and we just have regular cell phones!!

This month the Director of Homeland Defense Michael Chertoff announced a "crackdown" on the border. Stating that a series of "border taskforces" would be set up and would be coordinated with border states.
These taskforces are to provide .....
1. more personel
2. more infrastructure
3. more technology

Late last year the house of representatives passed a bill to put up a 700 mile fence along the 2000 mile border with Mexico.
The senate is to vote on the bill in Febuary I think!!
I believe the area that the 700 mile fence is to go up on will include the Loredo area!!!
