To Bring The Troops Home Or Not To Bring The Troops Home
This is the question..........................
Many people in this country and all over the world lobby daily to bring the troops home from Iraq. These people include most liberals and even a few that consider themselves to be conservatives. There are also people inbetween these two spectrums, like me, who also cry to bring the troops home.
I personally think bringing the troops home anytime soon would be a mistake. For one thing, the muslim terrorists would consider this a victory and would be even more emboldened to launch more attacks. Afterall, Osama Bin Laden himself has said that to "win this holy war" all they have to do is wait us out, because the americans will sooner or later lose the stomach for seeing our troops die.
I also feel this to be a mistake, because pulling out of Iraq now would guarantee that Iraq would become another terrorist training ground just as Aphganistan was.
When the Americans went to Aphganistan in the 1980's to help repel the soviet union, we worked with the Aphgan people and we accomplished the mission, but then we just walked away.
Aphganistan, which had been ravaged by years and years of war, was then left vulnerable to extremism, and the taliban moved in and with cruel brutality and alarming efficiency they turned Aphganistan into a country where even flying a kite became illegal.
Aphganistan became a terrorist breeding ground and gathering place, one who wished to become a terrorist knew exactly where they needed to go to learn the tools of the trade of extremism.
We should therefore not be niave about what would become of Iraq if we pulled out when they are still in such a vulnerable position.
On the other hand, as I said I am one of those people inbetween, and when I hear about our troops dying over there (and when I say our troops I mean the US and our allies) I feel sick and I really do not believe the Iraqi people are worth losing even one of our precious soldiers for.
Our soldiers are very special to me, I adore each and every one of them, and for them to give up their lives for these pathetically ungreatful people makes my skin crawl.
The troops death toll in Iraq as of today is 2065, with 1873 of those being American loses, a small amount when put into perspective of other wars such as WW2, however in WW2 we were fighting to protect ourselves and our allies. In this Iraq War we are losing men to protect foreigners who would just as soon see our civilization fall anyway.
So here is my proposal.............I would agree to bring the troops home.........IF once home all 100,000+ of them were then placed on the US/Mexican and US/Canadian borders, and if we cut ties completely with Iraq. Now when I say completely I mean COMPLETELY. No humanitarian aide, no buying their oil, no embassy there for public relations, No involvement with them whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also think our ally countries should do the same. There are other places to buy oil from, and we give much to much humanitarian aide away around the world anyway. We must start taking care of our own. Even here in America, we have children going to bed hungry, old people who have to choose between buying their medicines or food every month, and criminals running amuck. The money slotted for humanitarian aide could more then alleviate these problems and others here in the USA. I am sure the same could be said for our ally countries too.
I would much rather the trillions of dollars spent on this war in Iraq, be spent to protect our borders both from terrorists who would come here to harm us and from Illegals who come here and suck us dry financially.
However until that day comes and as long as my troops are in Iraq fighting for their very lives I will support them with all my heart and soul. They are a breed above the rest of us who choose to wage our battles on the net, or those who choose to forgive and forget such attacks as 9-11.
Remember freedom is NOT free, and at times hard to hold onto.
